[edit] Information

The nation's outdoor home. From the humble backyard to the grandest of grounds, what do Britain's gardens tell us about our culture, climate and history?

[edit] North West Scotland and North East England

Monty travels from the rugged north west coast of Scotland to the north east of England. He visits some of the most inhospitable places in the country and yet finds gardens that are flourishing. He sees romantic castles and some of the private gardens of the King, and explores gardens that challenge our idea of what a garden even is.

[edit] Northern England and Northern Ireland

Monty travels across some of the country's most stunning landscapes, heading across the north of England to Northern Ireland. Here, Monty sees the ingenuity, passion and determination of British people to garden and create gardens, no matter what the canvas.

[edit] Wales to Norfolk

Monty Don travels across one of the widest parts of Britain, from the wet western Atlantic coast in Wales through the hilly Midlands and down to the low-lying eastern coast of Norfolk, which has some of the lowest rainfall in the country. Here, Monty visits places that have influenced how people garden, small, deeply loved spaces, and gardens that bankrupted their owners. Monty sees how intensely personal British gardens can be and how they reflect some of the greatest passions as well as some real eccentricities.

[edit] London and Hampshire

Monty Don explores the most densely populated part of the country, London and the home counties. He visits some of London's gardens, including a special one on a barge, as well as a beautifully restored garden close to where he grew up in Hampshire and some gardens known for their different and personal styles of planting.

[edit] Oxford to the South West

Monty travels across the south west of the country to visit some of Britain's most exotic gardens, thanks to the warm and wet climate. On this journey, Monty also goes to some of the country's most historic gardens, as well as some challenging contemporary ones. Monty ends his journey in South West Wales.
